Oracle offers an own successor technology, the Oracle Identity Manger (OIM), and advises its customers to switch over accordingly. Certainly, the hesitation of many customers shows that OIM does not address all needs optimally, that have been covered reliably by the predecessor.
However, there are other alternatives that are related to Sun IdM / Oracle Waveset in a functional and structural way and that make a migration accordingly easier.
midPoint of Evolveum is a standard software for Identity & Access Management based on open source, that is eventually derived from Sun IdM / Oracle Waveset. midPoint has extensive IAM functions, for example for identity governance, auditing, organization tructures and work flows, credential management and entitlement management. The additional functions of midPoint as a new generation of IdM software ensure that not only a mere move of your identity management system happens but rather a fundamental improvement in all fields.
The benefit for users of Sun IdM / Waveset is, that midPoint has conceptual similarities what makes a switch-over more comfortable, secure and cost-saving. So, midPoint has compatible RBAC and organization structures as well as a comparable connector framework.
