- 12th Univention Summit 2020: Focus on Digital Sovereignty
Bremen, January 8, 2020 – Univention invites users, IT experts and technology manufacturers to the 12th Univention Summit in Bremen. Following the slogan “be open for digital sovereignty”, around 400 participants will be discussing the latest IT trends on January 23 and 24, 2020. Experts will provide practical tips for the secure and confident design of IT infrastructures and the secure management of digital identities. Another focus will be the digitization of education, which has gained additional momentum after the adoption of the DigitalPakt Schule (digital pact for schools). In addition, numerous IT managers from companies, administration and the education sector will report on the modernization of their organizations using open source software.
Keynote by Peter Ganten on Digital Sovereignty
The summit will start with a keynote by Univention CEO Peter Ganten: “Digital sovereignty has become a core topic for Germany and Europe,” says Ganten. “Political parties, public administration and companies have recognized how important it is for security, innovative ability and economic prosperity to have full control over the creation, storage and use of data. The challenge now is to implement workable solutions”.
The Summit Agenda
The diverse presentations, workshops and round tables as well as a relaxed evening get-together make the summit the ideal meeting place for all open source enthusiasts. Other highlights include presentations by Jonas von Malottki, Senior Manager of Daimler AG, on Open Source @Daimler and by the French telecommunications giant Orange on the use of UCS for 30 million user identities. The enterprise file sync and share solutions Nextcloud and ownCloud will present their roadmaps for 2020. And in clear practical presentations, the Brandenburg state parliament, the Österreichische Bundesverlag (Austrian federal publishing house), the states of Schleswig-Holstein and Brandenburg, and the cities of Cologne, Hanover and Nuremberg, among others, will report on their open source strategies.
28 IT Providers as Exhibitors on Site
In the exhibition accompanying the conference, visitors will also meet 28 well-known IT providers. The software developers agorum (diamond sponsor), Nextcloud, ownCloud (platinum sponsors) and Open-Xchange (education sponsor) are also taking part. Other IT service providers such as Apple Solution Expert Bechtle (platinum sponsor) and NetCologne (gold sponsor) will also be presenting their products in Bremen this year.
The participants of the 12th Univention Summit will also receive an exclusive insight into the new features of Univention Corporate Server (UCS), which will be released in version 5 in early summer. In addition, Univention will show innovations of UCS@school. The solution forms an open basis for central IT infrastructures in educational institutions, enables the establishment of a cross-school identity and authorization management and protects the personal data of students and teachers. A technician barcamp will take place as part of the summit for the third time. The complete agenda for the Univention Summit 2020 can be found here: https://www.univention-summit.com/#agenda.
