- Here to spread the word: DAASI International at it-sa 2024
The it-sa in Nuremberg is considered a hotspot for the IT security industry. In 2024, the trade fair once again brought together numerous IT security experts and people interested in the field. DAASI International was there again, this year accompanied by its US partner and LDAP expert Symas. At the joint stand, they presented new and established open source products for identity and access management.
This year, DAASI International once again focussed on digital sovereignty, for which open source technology forms the essential basis. In his presentation, CEO Peter Gietz used a current, practical example to illustrate this.
Free software, secure data – digital sovereignty through open source
In his presentation “Freedom of Forking: Digital Sovereignty with Customised Open Source Solutions”, Peter Gietz highlighted the possibilities of open source for achieving true digital sovereignty. Using the example of eduMFA, an open source solution for multi-factor authentication, Gietz explained to the expert audience how an association of several universities and colleges simply helped itself by forking. Forking is a common practice in the open source ecosystem that allows software to be customised and/or extended at any time, independently of the original product. Thanks to the open source licence of the original product, the consortium in question was independent and therefore in a position to work on their previously used but inadequate privacyIDEA software themselves and thus implement the urgently needed features in eduMFA. Gietz vividly described how eduMFA is now being customised to meet the security needs of the participating universities and colleges. With DAASI International now also offering its services (from consulting to SaaS) for eduMFA, more and more organisations are opting for this new product. The presentation met with great interest. Particularly pleasing were the visits to the stand afterwards, where attendees approached the stand staff with their questions and individual use cases.
Growing popularity for a clear vision
In addition to the fruitful professional exchange, DAASI International was able to successfully establish new contacts and strengthen existing partnerships. The visitor frequency at the stand and the interest in free software once again confirmed to the open source advocates from Tübingen how important a proactive approach to this topic is for its perception. The majority of visitors, who had previously not dealt with topics such as open source or digital sovereignty, or only marginally, were extremely open to the vision of a digital space in which the control and protection of data is in the hands of the software-using organisations themselves.
